This morning we shine the spotlight on Lynn who has worked at the Trust for more than 35 years! A familiar face to many, Lynn has worked in different roles and areas within the Trust before she joined the child protection team #NLaGPeople
Name, job role and how long you have worked here?
My name is Lynn Benefer, I am the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children. I trained at the Grimsby School of Nursing qualifying in 1988 and starting as a staff nurse on Cordeaux Ward which then became C1 medical ward. In 1996 I left C1 to train as a Health Visitor and subsequently returned to DPoW in 2000 to work in the child protection team. So I have worked for NLaG for the last 35 years, 36 if you include the year I worked in the hospital laundry when I was a student!
In a nutshell what does your average day at work entail?
Every day is different and you never know what you will be presented with which makes the job both rewarding and very challenging. In safeguarding there is no such thing as an average day as I can go from delivering training or supervising staff to working alongside emergency centre staff, paediatricians, police and social workers when children have been brought to hospital with potential non accidental injuries. I am also part of multi-agency meetings assessing risk to children and formulating action plans to help reduce that risk and keep them safe.
What are you most proud about working at NLaG?
With all the pressures that staff work under they still wear a smile, remain professional and caring to their clients and still have time to look after each other.
What do you get up to in your spare time?
When I am not driving backwards and forwards to Birmingham or Glasgow to pick my kids up from university I love reading and always have a long list of books I want to read.
