WORK WITH US AS A GLOBAL FELLOW

Global Fellows Radiologists
Map showing our location

NLaG is a moderate sized NHS Trust comprising three hospitals, two large district hospitals and one more modest site that offers elective surgery and rehabilitation. The main hospitals are sited at Scunthorpe and Grimsby. These two locations are in old industrial towns that in the past have suffered from the changes in society as England has moved from a country that has moved from industrial production to concentrating on service industries.

Grimsby remains one of the largest fishing ports in Europe and Scunthorpe has one of England’s largest steel works. Both towns have flourished in recent times as the economy has grown. The area of Northern Lincolnshire around these two major towns is prosperous farming country with many successful market towns.

Life for professional people in this area is very attractive. There is an abundance of good quality housing available at a tiny fraction of the price of similar homes in the South of England. It is possible to buy a comfortable three bedroom family house for around £130,000. Professional people who may be able to afford more will be impressed by the quality of homes that are available. Schools in the area are generally high quality. The local sixth form colleges send a significant proportion of their students to prestigious universities.

The area is well served by rail, road and air. We have two international airports within thirty minutes drive of all our sites. There are good rail links to London.

The radiology department is busy with inpatient, emergency department and outpatient work. It offers the full range of imaging services with the exception of PET. Our radiologists perform regular interventional sessions and are good teachers.

Any Global Fellow who joins us will benefit from a nurturing and kind environment at work and a good quality lifestyle for them and their families at home.

Living and Working in Northern Lincolnshire and Goole

Senior Radiologist Profiles

Dr Dabra

Dr Ajay Dabra (MBBS, MD, FRCR)

My career as a radiologist started about 23 years ago, when I joined as a senior registrar in PGIMER Chandigarh a very prestigious Institute in India. In 1999, I joined as a Senior lecturer and consultant in Govt Medical College and Hospital Chandigarh, the job involved both clinical work and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.

I moved to the UK around 15 years ago and started work at North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant Radiologist. This department has helped me a lot in development of my subspecialty interests of MSK, GI and non-vascular interventions. I have been the clinical lead of the department for the last 9 years.

During my tenure I have been involved in a major expansion – leading to construction of a whole new wing “Blue Sky Imaging Suite” where modern state of the art CT,MRI and US equipment was installed. My long tenure in this department has been very satisfying and enjoyable. Working with this radiology team has enriched me significantly both professionally as well as personally.

Dr Alex

Dr Joseph Alex (MBBS, MRCS, MD (Research), FRCR)

After my specialist radiology training at the Severn Deanery and the Hull & East Yorkshire training scheme I joined Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust in 2011.

I have been the Clinical lead for radiology at the Grimsby site since 2013.

We have a very versatile, friendly and helpful team of radiologists across all sites and we have strived to deliver a first class service to the local community. We are backed by a very proactive and responsive management team and are in the process of expanding our infrastructure and capacity with new builds and projects across our sites. It’s a great time to join our exciting team and move forward with us.

Having lived in the area for about 20 years I would wholeheartedly recommend the region as a great place to live, work and bring up a family.

The Area

Junior Doctor - Northern Lincolnshire and Goole HNS Foundation TrustThe North Lincolnshire district is a mixed industrial and rural community. In addition to the main centres of Grimsby and Scunthorpe the area has many picturesque market towns and villages, including Brigg and Barton which are small market towns concerned with light industries and agriculture. The remaining population is in a mainly farming rural area which extends into the attractive Ancholme Valley and the gently sloping hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds, which have been designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, with extensive beaches along the coastal strip. These make North Lincolnshire the ideal destination for walkers and cyclists.

Educational facilities in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole, and the surrounding area of Lincolnshire, are of a high standard. The house prices in the area are amongst the lowest in the UK. There is a wealth of cultural and sporting activities in the district suitable for most needs. This includes a marina at South Ferriby for sailing in the Humber Estuary, and a number of well-regarded golf clubs.
