This month we spoke to Anthonia, a Clinical Sister who works in the Acute Short Stay Unit at Scunthorpe General Hospital.
Can you tell us a little about your career so far?
I joined NLAG as an overseas trained Nurse in 2021 as a Staff Nurse. In October 2021, I got the role of a Clinical Sister on IAAUB in SGH. I am also one of the Staff Governors in the Trust.
What qualifications/ experience do you need to do your role?
To practice as a Nurse, you must be qualified and registered by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). In my role as a Clinical sister, a level 7 qualification, leadership or mentorship qualification and evidence of continuous professional development is required. The Trust values of kindness, courage and respect are guiding principles to navigate through this noble profession of Nurse.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love my new role as a Clinical sister. Since covid, we have moved from been an Assessment Unit, to Medical Respiratory Unit and now Short Stay as a result, the Trust has provided various Trainings to support these changes.
My role requires me to ensure staff compliance and competence is up to date, I am very passionate about Teaching and professional development. I am happy working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to promote patient’s wellbeing.
What advice would you give to someone looking to join in a similar role?
My advice to anyone looking for a similar role is to have self-confidence, seek continuous professional development and be a role model.
