This is the second installment of a new monthly feature where we shine the spotlight on different careers at NLaG. This month we spoke to Linda, a Compliance Training Officer at the Trust.
What qualifications/ experience do you need to do your role?
At least a Level 3 Award in Education and Training, ISO 9001 Internal Auditing, plus others pertaining to the kinds of courses and training you would be providing i.e. First Aid, Advanced Food Safety, Tug Training and Medical Gases to name but a few. Any previous experience in providing training or mentoring and an ability to deliver to a wide range of audiences.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I work across sites so it is great to be able to meet all sorts of people from our Trust. My role is uniquely changeable so covers more than just delivering training such as internal audits and sourcing and providing external training programs within a tight budget to cover statutory requirements amongst other things. There are many elements that allow for interdepartmental/external communications that often leads to engaging with some very interesting people.
What advice would you give to someone looking to join in a similar role?
Be confident, look to gaining any experience in providing support including such things as mentoring someone within your current role. Take an interest in what providing training can mean to people:- guidance, technique, skills, knowledge and many other aspects. Formal qualifications can be gained without actually being in a current training role.
